Abstract : A study of bolted, bonded, and bolted-bonded composite single lap joints was conducted. Graphite thermoplastic composite material (AS4/APC2) and two stacking sequences, (0,90,45 ,135)2s and (0,0,45,135)2s, were used. Five joint designs were tested; (a) bonded (FM400), (b) bolted-bonded with two bolts, (c) bolted bonded with four bolts, (d) bolted with six bolts, and (e) bolted with eight bolts. Load deflection measurements were made and joint efficiencies computed. Failure mechanisms were determined. Peak joint efficiencies were in the 55% vicinity and occurred for the six-bolt configuration and the (0,90,45,135)2s laminate. For the tests in this study, the adhesive bond failed interfacially at relatively low load levels.
