Abstract : Since its establishment in 1951, MIT Lincoln Laboratory has actively pursued its mission to 'Carry out a program of research and development pertinent to national defense with particular emphasis on advanced electronics.' Toward this end, the Laboratory promotes scientific and technological research providing the best solutions to address the needs of the nation. By patenting anti licensing inventions, technology originally developed to meet the specific needs of the Department of Defense and other government agencies can be applied to solve problems in the civilian sector; this substantially benefits the nation's economy and serves as an impetus for improving society worldwide.
