Abstract : The universal coupled wave equation of two dimensional acousto optic effect has been deduced and the solution of normal Raman-Hath acousto optic diffraction was derived from it. The theory was compared with the experimental results of a two dimensional acousto optic device consisting of two one dimensional modulators. The experiment results agree with the theory. (AN)
