Abstract : This report describes a Real-Ear Attenuation at Threshold (REAT) experiment conducted by Armstrong Laboratory (AL) and provides the attenuation data collected. The experiment follows a new measurement protocol developed by an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) working group, S12.11, titled 'Procedure for an Interlaboratory Comparison of REAT Protocols Intended to Provide an Improved Estimate of the Field Attenuation of Hearing Protection Devices.' AL was one of four laboratories that participated in the experimental plan outlined by the protocol to serve as an interlaboratory comparison. The results of the experiment were compared to the available real-world data base to demonstrate the utility of the protocol and to serve as the basis for the development of a standard to measure the real-ear attenuation of hearing protection devices (HPDs) which are manufactured for distribution and sale in general commerce and to the military.
