Abstract : The purpose of this study was to develop a simulation model for Martin Army Community Hospital that will dynamically assess the effects of proposed changes in the Emergency Department (ED) resource allocation, such as staff or beds, or changes in processes, duration, or frequency will have on patient access to the ED. A computer model of the ED was built using GPSS/H which represents the patient flow and resource allocation of the MACH ER. An interface for the naive user was built using Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows. The interface provides help and guidance for the user to change 0 manipulate any or all of over 90 variables in the model, run the simulation, and view charts and graphs based on the outcome measurements.
