Abstract : The U,S. Army currently seals its Quick Doff Hoods using a solvent-based liquid adhesive that Is hand-painted onto the garment. The liquid adhesive takes several minutes to cure, releases solvent fuzes, and produces inconsistent results. After evaluating a large number of commercially available adhesives, Clemson Apparel Research located an adhesive (Worthen E-9) that cures instantly, does not release harmful fumes, and can be consistently applied using conventional seal sealing technology. With associated hood design modifications, the adhesive can be used to improve performance and production.
