Abstract : The success of a fluctuation sensitive signal processor in detecting signals from submerged sources depends largely on the fluctuation character of a signal of interest. If a trend, possibly caused by multipath propagation or changes in the source receiver distance, exists in the signal, large 'apparent' amplitude fluctuations are introduced, and the fluctuation sensitive signal processor may not distinguish the signal from the noise. This report presents a method for removing trends that may exist in the data and demonstrates the resulting improvement in the performance of such a processor.
