Abstract : This thesis analyzes the growth capability of the Space Shuttle Orbiter's Multifunction Electronic Display Subsystem (MEDS). MEDS is a new "glass cockpit" system, using Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Displays (AMLCD) to replace the existing Orbiter cockpit instruments. The primary goals were to analyze the MEDS growth capabilities and to propose advanced Orbiter displays using the MEDS. Analysis of the Orbiter state vectors resulted in designs for real-time graphical displays for use during the ascent, orbital entry and rendezvous phases of the mission.
