Abstract : The objective of this effort was to investigate basic material properties that affect shock wave attenuation in construction materials and field test materials which show promise as external shock mitigators (ESMs). The results of this work demonstrated that very efficient ESM material systems can be produced from plastic containers embedded in low-density foam matrices. Full scale field testing was performed on such a material system using a conventional weapon. (MM)
