Abstract : The problem with using the same force for sequential combat and peacekeeping operations is not one of tasks and sub-tasks. It is a problem of making the mental transition from the aggressive violence of mid-intensity war, to the requirements for restraint and control of violence necessary for peacekeeping situational dominance. Although all of our service members have the inherent skills to do both, they must be given the time and training to mentally transition to each of these different environments. If sequential operations must be conducted, then rotate the force.
