Abstract : This report presents the T-pulse concept. The first part presents the T-pulse as a flexible tool for the analysis of waveforms exhibiting time-frequency localization. This is useful when T-pulse processing is performed on receive. It is shown how the T-pulse generalizes the Fourier, Gabor and Wavelet transforms. The analysis includes both the continuous and the discrete cases. The second part of this report presents the T-pulse as a waveshaping technique for target identification through parameter estimation. In this case one desires to transmit a T-pulse. An example is presented to illustrate how the T-pulse technique can be used to examine the fine structure of the electromagnetic response of a target. Since the T-pulse may be very narrow band, conventional equipment may be used on transmit and receive. Finally, a user oriented computer program is presented to illustrate how a T-pulse can be generated.
