Abstract : The objective of the study documented in this paper was to demonstrate that a voluntary team of industry participants from different design and engineering disciplines could identify, capture, and reach consensus on a consistent, thorough set of design rules and could document that process so that it could be repeated. Success was demonstrated by implementing a sample of the rule set in a rule-based software demonstration vehicle. The feasibility study concentrated on printed wiring board (PWB) assembly digital and analog circuit design, circuit implementation, and early detailed design, i.e., the capture of the parts list and schematic.
