Abstract : A transverse resonance mode matching technique has been developed to analyse passive microwave and millimetre wave waveguides and components. This technique possesses superior computational efficiency when compared to more general approaches such as the finite element method. This advantage is particularly useful for analysing broadband components used in electronic warfare systems. In this report, the theory behind this transverse resonance analysis is presented in detail. Theoretical results for several waveguiding structures are presented and compared with experimental or published data to verify the analysis.
