Abstract : To date no monies have been utilized from the postdoctoral research support grant that was awarded to Dr. Isabelle M. Lacaci. Dr. Lacaci just started to work in my laboratory as of September 5, 1995. She just recently received her Ph. D. degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Dr. Lacaci will be assessing the EGF-related peptide, heparin binding EUF-like growth factor (HB-EGF). Dr. Lacaci will be assessing whether this cytokine is expressed in human breast cancer cells and whether its expression is regulated by hormones that are central in the development of breast cancer. In addition, Dr. Lacai will be determining whether HB-EGF is functioning as an autocrine growth factor for breast cancer cells and if so does interference in its expression perturb the growth of breast cancer cells.
