Abstract : To measure the effectiveness of an explosive, the cylinder expansion test is used. In order to decrease the cost and make performance testing available to smaller batch sizes in development, a reduced scale cylinder test as developed. To directly compare test results from different sized cylinders, a new Gurney equation was developed. Mathematical estimations were developed to examine the effects of the thinning walls in the cylinders to the measured performance.
