Abstract : MRNMAP is the core module of the MOA-Range NOISEMAP (MR^NMAP) program for computing noise military airspace. It is a collection of "building block" noise models that model the noise characteristics for the way planes fly in military airspace. There are two general representations: broadly distributed operations as generally occur in MOAs and Ranges, and distributed parallel tracks as occur on MIRS and in target areas. The calculations in MR^NMAP are based on a USAF dataset of measured aircraft noise levels called NOISEFILE. The program calculates standard noise metrics of Ldmmr, Ldn , CNEL, Laq, SEL, and Lmax, MR-NMAP' output is in the form of tables of noise levels and a grid file that is used with NMPLOT to draw the noise contours. A companion program called MROPS ("MOA-Range Operations") allows the user to draw the airspace, specify areas of high/medium/low activity levels, and draw specific flight tracks such as bombing runs and MIRs. This report describes the noise model and the algorithms contained in MR^NMAP. A separate report, WR 94-12, "Military Operating Area and Range Noise Model MR^NMAP, User's Manual", gives user instructions for MROPS and MR NMAP.
