Abstract : A current trend in many reaches on the Upper Mississippi river is one of increased hydraulic conveyance through backwater areas with subsequent decreases in navigation channel flows This increases both the sediment load to backwaters and the amount of navigation channel shoaling requiring maintenance dredging. During the last 20 years, The St. Paul District, Corps of Engineers has implemented several projects to reverse this trend. As part of these projects, discharge measurements have been dome to quantify flow distributions. In pool 8, a fairly extensive data base of discharge measurements exists. (MM)
