Abstract : An investigation was conducted to determine the effect of molecular weight of a polymer, particularly polyethylene oxide in sliding contact with itself and iron, on its friction and wear behavior. Experiments were conducted in pin (rider) on disk friction and wear experiments at loads of 25 to 250 grams, sliding velocities of 0. 1 and 5. 0 centimeters per minute, 23 deg C, and in an argon atmosphere. The polyethylene oxide molecular weights ranged from 100 000 to 5 000 000. jg p.4
