Abstract : The effects of high-intensity electrical, magnetic, ultrasonic, and microwave fields upon the microstructural and mechanical properties of metal and ceramic alloys and the implications on the processing conditions for the forming components to near-net-shape are reviewed and discussed. Potentially significant developments that would take advantage of the most prominent effects in the forming of some components of interest to the DoD are identified.
