Abstract : The steady-state motion of a loose internal component can cause flight instabilities. In previous work, these instabilities have been predicted in terms of the amplitude and phase of the component motion. In this report, for the case of a component mounted on an elastic beam, the amplitude and phase of the motion are predicted in terms of the beam characteristics and the component's mass properties. Thus, flight stability can be computed from design parameters. (MM)
