Abstract : The objective of this program was to develop quality assurance methods for graphite epoxy/prepregs. Liquid chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and gel permeation chromatography were investigated. These methods were applied to a second prepreg system. The program also sought to correlate the resin matrix formulation with mechanical properties. Dynamic mechanical analysis and fracture toughness methods were investigated. Liquid chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and gel permeation chromatography were all successfully developed as quality assurance methods for graphite epoxy prepregs. The liquid chromatography method was the most sensitive to changes in resin formulation. All three methods were successfully applied to a second prepreg system. No correlation could be established between mechanical properties and the resin formulation variations defined within this contract.
