Abstract : Because graphite-polyimide composite materials exhibit high performance, low weight, and good thermal-oxidative stability, they are promising candidates for space shuttle applications. Materials that are being evaluated all have serious shortcomings. No single material is rated excellent in all important respects: processibility, thermal oxidative stability at 316 deg C, toughness, and mechanical properties. The objectives of this project were (1) to develop and optimize a method for co-curing NR150B2 and LARC 160 prepregs into hybrid composites and (2) to evaluate and compare the processing characteristics and the properties of the hybrid composites with those of laminates fabricated from the individual component prepregs. jg p3
