Abstract : This paper examines the islands surrounding Africa -- Cape Verde Islands, Sao Tome and Principe, Equatorial Guinea, Madagascar, Comoro Islands, Seychelles, and Mauritius -- in terms of the political economy of each and the significance of local and exile opposition groups. Analyzes the vulnerability of each state to Soviet exploitation and implications for U.S. policymakers.
