Abstract : We discuss the application of the Kohn-Nerode-James optimality result of nonlinear systems optimization to the problem of implementing high-safety, high-assurance systems. We state the central problem of feedback control in terms of the most general categories of models (e.g. both logical models and evolution models which are the subject of the field of hybrid systems). We discuss optimal solutions of these nonlinear problems in terms of implementing control programs for a generic architecture suitable for enterprise-wide coordination and control. Finally we provide definitions of enterprise-wide, closed-loop control problems for several large-scale systems using this architecture and discuss synchronization with enterprise coordination processes. We summarize results for a reference architecture being demonstrated for the Department of Defense. (AN)
