Abstract : This report concludes a nearly 4-year study of Shape Memory Alloys and development of new high temperature two-way shape memory alloys. New alloys were characterized in terms of their phase transformation temperatures, shape memory effect and mechanical properties. The work encompassed investigations of smart structures including NiTi-aluminum metal-metal composite materials. Development of high temperature SMAs extend use of applications to areas in which they are most needed, i.e., in defense and industrial fields that employ shape controlling and vibration depression in high temperature environments. Most of the research focused on the Ti and Ni Mn-Ti systems, and investigation and training of NiTi-Fd, NiTi-Hf and NiTi--Zr two-way shape memory alloys. (MM)
