Abstract : All integral transforms can be viewed as projections onto collections of functions in a Hilbert space. The properties of an integral transform are completely determined by the collection of functions onto which it projects. The wavelet transform projects onto a set of functions which satisfy a simple linear relationship between different levels of dilation. The properties of the wavelet transform are determined by the coefficients of this linear relationship. This thesis examines the connections between the wavelet transform properties and the linear relationship coefficients. (AN)
