Abstract : This paper presents a theoretical discussion of the relationship between weapon system life cycle maintenance costs and procurement costs. For certain situations, it derives upper bounds for the optimal allocation of maintenance and procurement resources, while maintaining a targeted number of operationally available weapon systems.
