Abstract : Single projectiles were launched at velocities between 0.1 and 0.4 km/sec from a specially - signed air gun. The projectiles impacted single and multiple layers of thin-sheet aluminum and nylon cloth to simulate the secondary meteoroid flux in the vicinity of the lunar surface and to define the penetration mechanics of typical spacecraft structures and space-suit materials. The results of these tests have been compared to existing low-velocity-projectile penetration equations, and configurations have been determined for maximum penetration protection. (AN)
