Abstract : The impetus of composite mechanics on the composite test methods and/or interpreting test results is described using examples from the three major areas of composite mechanics: composite micromechanics, composite macromechanics and laminate theory. The specific examples described occurred over the last 12 years and include contributions such as criteria for selecting resin matrices for improved composite strength, the 10 degrees off-axis tensile test, criteria for configuring hybrids and superhybrids for improved impact resistance and the 'induced bending rigidities' concept for buckling and vibration analyses.
