Abstract : Productivity Gain Sharing and Total Quality Management are two highly successful approaches to increasing productivity and improving quality. This report provides a synthesis of the literature and develops an integrated definition and approach. The first part of this report discusses the concepts of productivity and quality (how they are defined), the different perspectives (how they are measured), and shows how the two concepts are interrelated. The second part focuses on some of the causes of the productivity and quality problems in the United States and provides keys to reducing these problems.
