Abstract : The purpose of this document is to provide necessary fundamental information on the basic viscoelastic behavior of fiber reinforced composites. This information is essential to provide a sound basis for a systematic and scientific approach for the development of high temperature physical properties in elastomeric components, such as seals and hose, required for future AF systems, such as supersonic and hypersonic aircraft. To conduct basic analytical and experimental research on the general time-temperature dependent (viscoelastic) behavior of fiber reinforced composite materials. A general anisotropic viscoelastic theory will be derived along with the micromechanism solutions for time dependent properties. The limits of linear theories will be delineated. The program shall be divided into two areas of research: (a) unidirectional filamentary composites; (b) laminated composites. The analytical and theoretical work is confined to an experimental program, but may be modified if necessary.
