Abstract : The Vector Product Format (VPF) has been advancing, through prototype development, the Defense Mapping Agency's (DMA) transition from paper products to geographic information system environments. Indeed, that was VPF's main intent. Lately, however, the DMA has recognized that the VPF prototypes have not been meeting the requirements of a particular group, the Modeling and Simulation (M&S) community. Through support from the Terrain Modeling Project Office and the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office, the Digital Mapping, Charting, and Geodesy Analysis Program (DMAP) has been tasked to extend VPF to satisfy M&S Requirements. What follows is DMAP's initial profile of the Extended VPF and its first prototype. While by no means a completed standard, the EVPF profile is described by DMAP as a promising VPF alternative for the M&S community.
