Abstract : Elastomeric materials were investigated as hydrogenous shields for neutron radiation. In general, emphasis was confined to those materials with the highest hydrogen densities which can be cast and cured at room temperature. Various liquid natural, butyl, and polybutadiene formulations were evaluated to determine their curing characteristics and suitabilities as neutron shields. The most promising material consisted of an epoxy resin cured, liquid, carboxy modified polybutadiene filled with polyethylene.
