Abstract : The compressive strength and failure mechanisms of an idealized composite material are analyzed. A method of predicting, theoretically, the compressive strength and failure modes of an idealized composite material is developed. The method is applied to a boron fiber/magnesium matrix composite and predicted strength values are compared to experimental data.
