Abstract : One of the fundamental issues in European security is NATO expansion. This study examines the Czech Republic's reasons for wanting to join NATO as well as its overall security policy in Europe. Because the Czech Republic is one of the premier candidates for NATO entry, understanding its motives and aspirations is important as a guide to promoting a better grasp of security issues in Central and Eastern Europe and to facilitating an improved understanding of the context in which NATO expansion will take place.
