Abstract : The Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center is an NCI-designated (5P3O CA60553) multi-disciplinary clinical and research center. The Cancer Center has significant strengths in the area of breast cancer, both in basic and clinical research. The training grant, 'Molecular Biology of Breast Neoplasia' enables 4 predoctoral students per year to be exposed to the latest concepts in the biology, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Four students were selected in October 1994, and four new students were selected in October 1995. These students are in an ideal position to maximize research efforts and pursue careers in breast cancer research that may impact on the disease. The Cancer Center just received supplemental funds for one post-doctoral position per year for the next three years of the training grant. This will further expand the pool of highly qualified candidates in the field of breast cancer biology to hopefully develop new strategies in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer.
