Abstract : As a result of a DARPA DURIP grant in 1995 and an associated NSF Instrumentation award, the University of Rochester has recently acquired two automated vehicles and various computer control and perception hardware. Research supported by these vehicles, commencing now and extending over the next several years, includes selective perception, hierarchical control, cooperation between intelligent agents, and navigation; the applications are cooperative mobile surveillance and monitoring The mobile cooperating robotics domain has led to several student papers, and research is starting to flow from the new vehicles already.
