Abstract : The U.S. National Security Strategy and National Military Strategy are dependent on maintaining a robust capability to project forces through strategic mobility. This study examines the concept of strategic mobility and its links to strategy, the evolution and role of the U.S. Transportation Command, how strategy impacts mobility requirements studies, reviews existing national strategic mobility capabilities, and on-going initiatives. The study concludes with a subjective assessment regarding the adequacy of current programs and initiatives to meet future requirements. The purpose of this paper is to leave the reader with a greater understanding and appreciation for the concept of strategic mobility and how it Supports national strategies.
