Abstract : The paper reviews the importance of accurate intelligence for the crisis manager and the possible causes of breakdowns in the intelligence process that prevent the crisis manager from receiving the intelligence they need. The more common sources of intelligence failures are presented with special emphasis on the failures that occur in the analysis of intelligence. The conclusion drawn is that the human being is the weak link in the intelligence process. Emphasis on limiting the negative effects of human nature in the intelligence cycle will lead to the most benefits for crisis management.
