Abstract : In a time of diminishing resources, the Army and Army National Guard need to work in concert to improve and maintain the Total Force concept. There needs to be consensus on the assets and liabilities of each organization so that a unified effort can be made to preserve and strengthen our position as part of this nations total defense structure. The paper looks at the relationship between the Army and Guard and the difficulty of creating a successful joint venture in our current environment. It looks at the history of the Guard and the efforts that have made in the past to create a successful joint venture.
