Abstract : The phenomenon of dielectric breakdowns caused by electron irradiation was investigated in several polymeric materials. The frequency of occurrence of the breakdowns was dependent on factors such as the electron kinetic energy, electron flux, sample radiation history, and sample temperature. These results were interpreted in terms of a modified band model for organic insulators. This modified band model successfully explained many of the experimental observations.
