Abstract : Penetration parameters are presented for 1/3-caliber polyethylene cylinders impacting semi-infinite 2024-T351 aluminum targets at velocities ranging from 20,000 to 37,000 ft/sec. Variations of the penetration parameters with impact velocity indicate, in accord with the trends previously established at lower speeds, that penetration depth increases with the two-thirds power of velocity. This power law is currently in use by most investigators for the fluid-impact region.
