Abstract : Timecode readers form an essential part of many data analysis and processing schemes, and are generally designed to read an analogue timing code from a ferromagnetic tape. At the present time most data is digitised before it is processed further, and so a method of reading the original analogue timing code after it has been digitised is necessary in order to establish an accurate time standard between events which can only be examined in different digitised datasets. This document describes the software implementation of a timecode reader with improved accuracy and flexibility over conventional analogue timecode readers for temporally localising events in a digitised dataset.
