Abstract : The purpose of this research is to ascertain the effects of team communication and decision making processes occurring within the context of tactical decision making teams, and the extent to which these processes differ among teams varying in gender composition. Tactical decision making teams require interdependent members to interpret and coordinate information with speed and synergy. Team performance is dependent not only on individual proficiency but also the ability of the team members to integrate their behaviors to form efficient processes. Gender composition in teams have been related to both positive and negative characteristics in team communications and outcomes. This study investigates differences in communication and coordination patterns among members of teams differing in gender compositions and gender of team leader. The rationale and method are described in this report. Data collection has just been completed.
