Abstract : The report examines the depot repair cycle process from the determination that an item is beyond the repair capability of intermediate maintenance until the item is returned to the depot, repaired, and on the shelf ready for issue. The analysis indicates that substantial quantities of items are inducted earlier than required and at the same time other currently required items are not inducted. The causes of those imbalances are identified along with management actions to improve the processes. The report recommends a series of mid-term policy changes and business practice improvements and near-term incremental steps to achieve progressive improvement of the depot repair cycle process.
