Abstract : Results obtained by nonperpendicular illumination of ultrasonic cells are described. There is reasonably good agreement between theory and experiment; this agreement exists for results obtained when the cell is operated at 5, 15, and 25 Mc/s. In an optical analog computer, the light intensity of the optical output can be increased considerably by illuminating the cell at the Bragg angle; but this increase is obtained at the expense of decreased bandwidth of operation.
