Abstract : Heat transfer devices with moving parts implement phase changes to and from viscous Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. By combining certain principles of heat and mass transfer, hydrodynamics and rheology, equations are developed for the design of these machines and the prediction of their performance. A numerical example illustrates the use of the derived equations.
