Abstract : Experimental demonstration of optical guiding of a high intensity (> 10(exp 16) W/cu cm laser pulse in a 1 cm long cylindrical plasma channel formed by a slow capillary discharge is presented. Optical guiding in a curved plasma (radius of curvature = 10 cm) is demonstrated for the first time. It is shown experimentally that the (^ 10(exp 8) - 10(exp 16) W/cu cm). Experimental results, showing guiding over approximately 11 vacuum diffraction lengths, in both straight and curved channels, are in agreement with theoretical and numerical calculations.
