Abstract : A spatial filtering technique originally devised to filter streaking from geographically-scaled sidescan sonar images is applied successfully to smaller-scale sidescan sonar images generated during mine warfare exercises. Implementation of the algorithm to minimise computation time is discussed and appropriate filter parameter settings are established. Related techniques for image contrast and noise control are also discussed.
