Abstract : The Gulf Coast Region Maritime Technology Center (GCRMTC) was initiated September 26, 1994 and has been designated as a Navy Center of Excellence in Advanced Marine Technology. The Center carries out research in advanced marine technology at both its New Orleans, Louisiana and Orange, Texas Sites. All research projects sponsored by the Center are collaborative research projects with marine industry partners. The Center issues requests for concept proposals from maritime industries once per year and from internal sources twice per year. During this quarter the Center received 13 concept proposals which were peer reviewed, and then reviewed by the Government/Industry Advisory Board (GIAB). The GIAB, meeting on December 12, 1996, reviewed the concept proposals and made their recommendations to the Government Program Manager (GPM). The Center operates two subcenters. The Environmental Resources and Information Center (ERIC) is co-located with the New Orleans Site and is a depository and resource for environmental issues of concern to the shipbuilding/marine industries. The second subcenter, the Simulation-Based Design Center (SBDC), is co-located with the Orange Site and has several collaborative projects ongoing with shipbuilding marine industries. The operations and services of the GCRMTC and both subcenters are fully detailed on the World Wide Web.
